Stenstaden (The stone city)
There are more than 200 shops in the centre of Sundsvall town. It is naturally the most recommended and beautiful area for shopping. Better service and more diversed shops than at the Birsta shopping mall.

The IN: mall next to the main square features many high class shops. The centre of Sundsvall is sadly very empty on Sundays though. Saturday is the liveliest and nicest day to "hang around" in the centre.

Birsta City mall and IKEA
People come from all over Norrland and even from Norway and Germany to Birsta (about 7 km north of Sundsvall) to shop in the largest shopping centre in northern Sweden. The Birsta City (previously "Ikanohuset") has over 90 stores of top fashion brands, electronics, cafés, restaurants etc. IKEA being one of the largest attracts an amazing 4,5 million annual visitors! The Birsta area har many other big department stores and the area is growing every year. The traffic is intense, but the parking is free. There are a lot of busses that can take you there from Sundsvalls busstation, "navet". But don't blame us if you buy more than you can carry...

Alcohol
It's forbidden to drink alcohol at public places (except in the special restaurant outdoor places). But if you care to gather with your friends for a party at home, there are shops for alcohol. The Systembolaget stores is the only places where you can buy quality brands of all kinds, all conveniently in one place. In fact it's the ONLY place you can buy it.
They are Located at the IN: shopping mall, Birsta City, and Timra Centrum.

Other
A number of supermarkets are also spread out through Sundsvall. Look for names as ICA, Coop, Konsum, Hemköp, Willy's etc.
